55th Bermuda Goodwill – Round 1 |

| The 55th Annual Bermuda Goodwill Golf Tournament got off to a brilliant start today with 106 teams competing over four days at Port Royal Golf Course; Belmont Hills Golf Club; Tucker’s Point Club and Mid Ocean Club. This is the second successive year that the event has attracted over 100 teams. Team Net Championship Bedrock Golf Club “B” out of Boston led by the lone female professional in the field, Lynn Valentine began their quest with a 13 under par 57 today at Belmont Hills. T. Hack McDonnell; Marty McGrann and Rob Tidgewell all seemed to combine their efforts today in what seemed like a flawless round of golf. Closely behind them in second place is rivals Essex County Club “B” team on 12 under 58 also playing at Belmont Hills. Essex County B are led by first time Professional Matt Hess and Amateurs Gardner Sisk; Carmine Sarno; and Michael Brown. Belmont Hills GC led by local professional Darron Swan are the top local club and only two back from the lead with an 11 under 59 at Belmont as well. Darron led a team familiar with their course and amateurs; Harold Madeiros; George Corday and Brian “Scruff” Adcock all took advantage of their home course. Team Championship Gross In the gross division visiting Professional Craig Marseilles from Canada led a team of experienced local members Anthony Rabain; Millard Beach and San Bezant to a 8 under par 62 gross today at Belmont Hills. Tucker’s Point Club; Essex County A and Cyprian Keyes GC are tied for 2nd place all at 6 under 64 today. Tucker’s Point played at home while Essex A and Cyprian Keyes both played at Belmont. Tucker’s Point is led by Paul Adams and Amatuers Danny Fagundo; Deno Papageorge; Thad Crouch and Essex A is led by Tommy Waters and amateurs Craig Deery; Peter Robbins; Peter Benke while Cyprian Keyes was led by Professional Terry O’Hara and amateurs Dan Falcucci; Dave Falcucci and Peter Boler. Both teams are from Boston MA. Senior Team Division – Net Bear Hill GC led by professional and long time attendee, Ed Whalley from Boston MA are tied at the top of the Senior Net Division on 10 under par with Loch Lomond GC out of Florida led by Professional Doug Main. Bear Hill amateurs are Dr. James Showstack; Cosmos Trapani and Robert Young while amateurs for Lock Lomond are Chuck MacGillivray; Walt Griffin and Alex Laughlin. Senior Team – Gross There is a five way tie for first place in the Senior Gross Division with all five teams sitting at 2 under for the tournament. They are: a. Montebello GC b. Crystal Downs CC c. Eastward Ho – A d. The CC of Salt Lake City – A e. Sharon CC Junior Professional Golf Professional Ron Philo extended his stay from the Goslings last week continued his fine form with 21 points today tied with Tom Waters from Boston MA and representing Essex County A Team. Philo is from FL. Paul Adams, Bermuda PGA Professional representing Tucker’s Point Club is two back on 19 points. Senior Professional Craig Marsailles, from Canada and leading Eagles Nest leads the Senior Professional Division with 20 points over Adam Brown who is representing The National GC A also from Canada and one back on 17. Craig played at Belmont Hills while Adam scored his points at Tuckers Point Club. The Second Round continues tomorrow with a 9 am shotgun start. |
